Cassini is about to make its final descent into Saturn early Friday morning, and I couldn't be more inspired! It is a daring little space explorer whose journey has been particularly moving for many people, so I thought a portrait would be fitting.
The above piece was hand painted with acrylic on cold press illustration board. The black space of the original was painted with Black 2.0, an ultra matte, light absorbing black that is just wonderful and is black cherry scented. The painting was scanned and edited in Photoshop, then loaded into Illustrator and made to look like a 1960's textbook on space exploration. The paper look is courtesy of a free texture set I found on DeviantArt.
Ad Saturnia will be available as a free digital download on my site this afternoon! The original, unedited painting (which still smells like fresh cherries!) will be for sale soon, along with a print of the edited version. Inquire for pricing.
Please enjoy it and Cassini's Grand Finale while listening to Saturn by Stevie Wonder, or your favorite space song (you totally have a favorite space song, you know you do).
